How to Connect Google Search Console to Your Squarespace Site

We love to see Google keyword traffic in the Squarespace analytics pane.

Diving right in, here is how to connect them:

  1. Open the Squarespace site you wish to connect to the Google Search Console

  2. Go to Analytics and click on Search Keywords.

  3. Click the large black button that says Connect

  4. Choose the Google account associated with the correct Google Search Console

That’s all there is to it. The keyword data will start populating in about 24 hours.

A few things are happening behind the scenes:

  • Squarespace is leveraging a Google API that creates a “Property” in the connected Google Search Console account

  • Google is verifying your domain and Squarespace account.

Seeing Google Search keyword data in the Squarespace Analytics pane provides easy access to insights that benefit your business.

Here are some of those benefits:

  • Deeper Data Insights: Google Search Console offers detailed data about how your website is performing in Google search results. By linking this with Squarespace analytics, you can get a more comprehensive view of your site's performance, including search queries, click-through rates, and overall search visibility.

  • Enhanced Google Search Analysis: With Google Search Console data integrated into your Squarespace analytics, you can monitor the keywords that drive traffic to your site and understand how your SEO efforts are paying off. This integration helps you identify which pages rank well and which need improvement.

  • Optimization Opportunities: The data from Google Search Console can help you identify optimization opportunities. For example, you can see which search queries have high impressions but low click-through rates and adjust your meta descriptions and titles to improve those metrics.

  • Performance Tracking: Track a site over time to see how changes you make (like updating content or optimizing for specific keywords) impact your Google Search rankings and traffic. This ongoing monitoring is excellent for maintaining and improving your site's performance in Google Search.

  • Behavior Insights: Understanding how people find and interact with your site from Google Search results can help you better tailor your content and design to meet their needs and expectations. This can improve the user experience and lead to higher engagement rates and conversions.

  • Content Strategy Enhancement: You can refine your content strategy by analyzing the data from Google Search Console. Determine which topics are popular among your audience and create more content around those subjects, driving more traffic and engagement.

Tips for Using Google Search Console Effectively

  • Regularly Check Performance:

    • Monitoring will help you understand which keywords work for you and where to improve.

    • Export and save the results on a regular schedule to track changes over time

    • We recommend creating a monthly calendar item to schedule yourself and block time to do it.

  • Fix Indexing Issues:

    • Address any issues Google highlights to ensure all your important pages are indexed and performing well.

    • Common issues are insufficient content to index, poor or missing meta descriptions, multiple h1 tags, no links, and too many redirects.

  • Optimize Content:

    • Use insights from the Search Console to refine your content strategy and improve your site’s SEO.

    • Use the insights to identify old pages or posts that would benefit from a refresh, update, or expansion.

The steps above will seamlessly integrate Google Search Console with a Squarespace site. This will give you valuable insights into your website’s performance and help you optimize it for better search engine visibility.

Pro Tip

If you have multiple Squarespace sites, you can connect them all to one Google Search Console account or different Google accounts. This is especially helpful as a service provider. More sophisticated businesses will want their Squarespace site connected to their Google Search Console account.
